Hardwood Flooring Guide

Strong, luxurious, and enduring, hardwood flooring is truly a natural wonder.  One of the industry’s most coveted floors, hardwood has been beloved for centuries, but today there are more choices than ever before. Whether you prefer an engineered or solid hardwood, or a finished or unfinished floor, The Floor Store Carpet One Floor & Home is your one-stop source for your upcoming project.

While the decision to install natural hardwood flooring can often represent a significant upfront investment, hardwood adds significant value to your home or business, and will grace your space for generations if properly maintained. Our team of professional flooring specialists can help you determine which hardwood is the best one to suit your needs.

Expert Advice - Choosing a Carpet Style

Jim Aaron, our VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, shares some information on the different carpet styles that are available.

Solid Hardwood vs. Engineered Hardwood

Solid hardwood is the original hardwood flooring, with each individual plank made from a solid hunk of wood. With its legendary staying power and endless possibilities, solid hardwood is prized by those who like to redecorate, since it can be refinished over and over again as the years pass on. Solid hardwood cannot be installed below grade.

Engineered hardwood is newer alternative to solid hardwood flooring. With its multiple wooden layers, engineered hardwood is a lot denser than solid hardwood, and tends to be a bit more affordable. Engineered hardwood also offers up added moisture resistance. Though not considered waterproof, this revamped hardwood works well below grade and can withstand some moisture and humidity.

Hardwood Species

So, you’ve decided to install natural hardwood – now what? Did you know that the species of wood you choose will help determine your new floor’s overall hardness and performance, as well as its grain patterns?  Whether you prefer the classical looks of oak or pine, or the luxurious gleam of exotic mahogany, there are many looks to choose from.
